Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects Empty Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects

A lot of us have a real problem woth phbotographing our projects and getting the photos to a standard we want. Then there is the thought mulling round in our heads should we photoshop them before posting or should we re-take the photo etc etc. So I thought it might be nice to share how we take photos of our projects and the best way we find to attack the task of achieving the best photo possible. So here is your space to do that:-

Hiyah peeps! Smile
I thought i would share what I do....

natural light is best so if you can get a nice bright place in your garden to take a picture go for it! its so hard in this weather but i try!!! if you can't find a nice day go for a nice bright windowsill in the house! failing that you will have to resort to the good old flash!! (think most of my pictures over all this dreary weather we have been having has had flash use recently!!)

I have my camera always set on macro for cards (which is like a little flower icon) and then I zoom in from a distance.

I resize my pictures for my blog and forums in my corel paint shop pro so that they are 500x500 at 72 dpi.

what does everyone else do for thiers? i think kerry has an online photo thing?

Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects Empty Re: Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects

Well. Here's what I do. It may not work for everyone, but it works for me. I don't ever depend on natural lighting. I craft day or night and can't wait to take photos when I have a blog to maintain.

I use 2 large lights overhead my desk at ALL times that put out a ton of light. They are actually the kind often hung from garage ceilings for "shop lights" then I don't have to add any additional light for photo taking.

I usually place a spare piece of cardstock up behind my project so that my windowsill and blinds don't show. I have a small piece of foam tape on my desk that holds the carstock in place. When I place my project in front of the foam tape it hides it in the photo.

I will take several shots of a project - if there is any glitter, plastic, or anything else that might shine if the flash goes off I take the photos from a few different angles as some of these cards don't seem to photograph well straight on.

When I get the photos into my computer they usually look fairly good - but the only occasional problem is that they are sometimes I bit dark. I will manually play with the exposure to brighten the photo a little. I have noticed that in most of the photo programs I've used nearly all the automatic settings to enhance the photo will screw up my colors - they work great for my photos of people, but not for my cards.

I also always crop my photos. I don't like extra garbage in the background. I like the focus on my card.

Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects Empty Re: Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects

I am such a procrastinator so often run out of daylight to photograph my projects when I'm on a deadline. Most of my photos are taken at night.I use a daylight lamp and no flash and I have the provocraft black and white 12x24 pad which i use as a backdrop. I just open up the pad and use black for lighter cards and the white for darker cards, sometimes I use 12x12 papers if I would like a different colour background too.

Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects Empty Cartridge Storage Box - Picture 2

Tips and Tricks on Photographing Your Projects Box_212

This is the second of the pictures I took. The box was bought at Harrogate last year, it is double sided with lids on both sides. It was reduced from £9.00 to£6.00 which I thought was a bargain. I have labelled inside from A-Z so that once I have finished using the series of cartridges in my juke box - they just go back in their little slot.

The label on the top says 'TML storage by design'. The other nice thing about this box is that it has a strong handle, good secure when the lids are closed. I wish I had bought a couple more for odds and ends.

PS - Thanks for the help Liz in posting the pictures.

Thanks for the great tips. I may have to try to make a light box like what cricutbutterflies has on her blog. Love it.

I have to add that I too try to take my projects outside. Barring that I will lay my layouts on the floor on a black sheet in front of my picture window in my dining room and I will prop my cards up on my desk with a florist frog and use both my Ott lamps. I don't use my flash. I then edit and crop them on my computer (just using my windows software)
